It was a night of bold choices on the red carpet of the 2012 People's Choice Awards on Wednesday night in Los Angeles. Stars brought serious glamour with metaillics, bright colours and dreamy neutrals as they made their way into the awards bash.
Here's a look at a few of the celebs who walked the red carpet.
Lea Michele made a flirty statement wearing a '20s-inspired fringe Marchesa frock. Emma Stone looked super slick wearing a Gucci suit. Miley Cyrus wore a fashion-forward cream-coloured David Koma dress and accessorized with a vibrant pair of stilettos and a silver Marchesa clutch. Elisha Cuthbert wore a dramatic spring 2012 VAWK gown by Toronto-based designer Sunny Fong.
Milan Fashion Week finished on Tuesday and Wednesday evening the boys started walking down the runways in Paris showing off upcoming fall fashions.
Here's a look at some of the highlights from Paris Fashion week.

Thierry Mugler's new creative director Nicola Formichetti presented a trippy collection at a runway show inspired by Montreal model Rick Genest (Zombie Boy) with an exclusive pounding soundtrack courtesy of Lady Gaga. Viktor & Rolf played it safe with relaxed suits. Louis Vuitton's 2011 fall collection offered luxurious basics. Jean Paul Gaultier went for a look that screamed Bond, James Bond.
Friday January 21, 2011 and Saturday January 22, 2011
(Above L-R: Givenchy, John Galliano, Dior Homme and Hermes)
Riccardo Tisci's Givenchy collection was fierce and fun with print splashes everywhere. John Galliano was inspired by Rudolf Nureyev and "the idea of hope, discipline, dreams – the way he fled Russia". The Dior Homme fall 2011 collection whispered chic refinement. Hermes offered sophisticated classics with somber shades.
Sunday January 23, 2011
(Above L-R: Lanvin, Yves Saint Laurent and Paul Smith)
The Lanvin fall 2011 collection was a combination of slick classics and technical sportswear. Yves Saint Laurent offered fall looks inspired by London in the Sixties. Paul Smith's fall 2011 collection was part rock star part astronaut.
Trends, trends, trends! Here's a look at 5 different trends that dominated the red carpet at the 68th annual Golden Globes:
Pretty In Pink
From vibrant to pale... lots of ladies opted to wear a shade of pink down the Globe red carpet. Pink dresses were worn by Lea Michel (Oscar de la Renta), Natalie Portman (Viktor & Rolf), Megan Fox (Armani Prive), Sandra Bullock (Jenny Packham), Emma Stone (Calvin Klein), Claire Danes (Calvin Klein) and Julianne Moore (Lanvin).
More from Paris Fashion Week! This weekend some of our fave high profile designer's sent collections down the runway. Here's a look at the 2011 spring/summer collections from Viktor & Rolf and Jean Paul Gaultier.
Show: Viktor & Rolf Date and Time: Saturday October 1, 2010 - 1:30pm
Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren's avant-garde 2011 spring/summer collection definitely didn't disappoint... it was actually kind of inspiring. The over-the-top collection was built out of shirts... yes shirts. Starched, rumpled, puffed-up or stretched down to the ankle. Some, like the closing wedding dress were real pieces of art... however only a few of the pieces were actually wearable.
Show: Jean Paul Gaultier Date and Time: Saturday October 1, 2010 - 7:00pm
Punk-inspired eighties street wear, pretty floral creations and even lingerie for the S&M coquette all came down the runway during the Jean Paul Gaultier show on Saturday night. Plus sized Gossip front-woman Beth Ditto also made a few appearances. The singer wowed the crowed as the opening act of the runway show and also appeared wearing a variety of short, flamboyant dresses throughout the show.
Recently I was asked to speak to a class of young fashion hopefuls and one of the questions that really got me thinking were “what films can I watch to learn more about the industry?”
Last year The September Issue caught the attention of fashion lovers and film buffs across the country but fashion industry insiders have been giving audiences a peek into their world long before R.J. Cutler’s much loved film. When you start looking there is definitely no shortage of behind-the-scenes documentary films on the fashion industry.
If you are a lover of fashion and film... here’s a look at 10 of the most memorable fashion documentaries that I recommended that have hit the theatre or television. Fortunately all of the flicks listed below can be tracked down on-line or at a well stocked video store.
Unzipped
Directed By: Douglas Keeve
Release Date: 1995
This is really the fashion documentary that started it all. Its fun, it’s campy and you get to re-live all of the fashion glory of the 90’s with an incredibly flamboyant Isaac Mizrahi. Douglas Keeve’s Unzipped followed the designer and his entourage as he planned his fall/winter 1994 collection and the drama followed. Of course anyone who was ever anyone in fashion makes an appearance in the film: Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Shalom Harlow, a very young Kate Moss... the list goes on. If you haven’t seen the film I would probably recommend watching it just to watch the supermodel parade and see Linda’s rant asking if Isaac has "something against white women" for making her wear flats. The film was a moderate box office success but what it really did was turn Mizrahi into a household name across the globe. The film remains a bit of a cult classic today but the over-the-top drama that took place in the film and after its release... sadly led to the demise of Keeve’s and Mizrahi’s relationship.
Love her or hate her... you have to admit Lady Gaga’s red carpet ensembles are an event themselves and now her videos are finding themselves worthy of some serious fashion commentary. Remember the over-the-top Alexander McQueen threads in the Bad Romance video last year?
Late Thursday night Lady Gaga released the her latest music video for the song “Telephone” which features Beyonce and... the fashion is... well kinda epic. It’s definitely one of the most fashion forward displays we have seen since... well since her “Bad Romance” video. If you haven't had the chance to check it out yet here it is:
The video is pretty crazy. Actually the words I used when I first saw it on Friday morning were "that video is wack". Wack or not the fashion is truly over-the-top and that's what I talk about in this blog. Here’s a look at all the killer fashion that can be found in the 9 minute video which was directed by Jonas Akerlund:
The video starts off with Lady Gaga being escorted to her jail cell wearing a cleavage baring custom made black and white outfit by the ever imaginative French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Remember that crazy Kermit the Frog coat we saw Gaga wear last year... same designer. The sunglasses are courtesy of Mercura.
The crime scene tape design that Gaga writes around her cell wearing was created by LA based designer Brian Lichtenberg.
The custom made jumpsuit and chain outfit that Gaga wears as she is escorted out to the prison yard was created by Viktor & Rolf... while the very cool lit cigarette sunglasses and crazy platform heels were custom designed by the creative team behind Lady Gaga known as “the Haus of Gaga”. Those smoking cigarette sunglasses are just insane don’t you think?
Back inside the jail... Gaga’s studded jacket is by Search and Destroy while here sunglasses are Chanel. Notice the Diet Coke can hair rollers? That little detail is one of my fave things in the video. When it is time for the first dance sequence Gaga and her dancers strip down to wear studded/crystallized barely there bikinis designed by the team at the “Haus of Gaga”.
When Lady Gaga is released from the big house she does it up in a vintage outfit and over-sized hat by Thierry Mugler. Enter Beyonce wearing a vintage Thierry Mugler hat and outfit.
Next Beyonce struts her stuff through the dinner wearing a skin tight yellow "Wonder Cup Pencil Dress" dress and hat by Atsuko Kudo who are known for their sexy couture latex designs. The Mickey Mouse inspired flip sunglasses which we have seen Gaga wear a few times before are courtesy of Jeremy Scott.
During the “Let's Make A Sandwich” sequence Gaga wears clear silicone rubber Rachel Barrett dress... Gaga performed in a similar Rachel Barrett dress on her Monster Ball tour. She wears a Fred Butler constructed telephone hat and a pair of Haus of Gaga papier-mâché boots. When she waitresses her way into the diner the blue telephone hat is replaced with a telephone hair piece created by celeb hairstylist Danilo.
For the big dance sequence with our girls we get Gaga in an American flag bikini outfit by Haus of Gaga and boots by Christian Louboutin. Beyonce dances along in a similar dress by Oscar Olima. (BTW... Gaga has worn L.A.'s Olima designs numerous times in the past year...) The background dancers wear custom made denim outfits by Franc Fernandez and Oscar Olima and leather outfits by Noki, Bess and Haus of Gaga.
Beyonce’s solo scene in a baby blue hotel room has her wearing a bling jacket and shoes by Jean Charles de Castebaljac. The denim shorts she’s wearing are by Franc Fernandez and Oscar Olima.
Next up we get Lady Gaga dancing solo in a custom made ribbed leopard 1piece by Haus of Gaga.
The video ends off with both Lady Gaga and Beyonce dancing in front of Quentin Tarantino’s infamous “pussy wagon” from the Kill Bill series. Both wear cowboy hat with sheer draping by Emilie Pirlot.
And that’s that! Exhausting right! What do you think of the video... do you have a fave part... and more importantly what do you think of all of the studs, the revealing outfits and those crazy hats and head-pieces? Let me know.
Show: Viktor & Rolf
Location: Espace Ephemere Tuileries
Date and Time: Saturday March 6, 2010 – 1:30pm
Day four of Paris Fashion Week continued on with Dutch fashion designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren who are known for their sometimes unbelievable over-the-top fashion shows. For the 2010 fall/winter collection they once again blurred the lines turning the runway show into a performance piece where the duo dressed and undressed supermodel Kristen McNameny.
Confused? Well basically the designers transferred each removed layer - first maxi-greatcoats and oversized fox fur coats; then lighter parkas hung with swinging drawstrings - onto another model, who then walked the catwalk. After McNameny was pared down to a strapless bustier, the pair repeated the process in reverse: stripping the other models and piling the layers back on.
The show itself was a perhaps a little too much spectacle and audiences couldn’t remember much of the almost entirely black collection.
Last week I gave you the lowdown on the men’s 2010/2011 collections shown in Milan... this week it’s time to check out what happened in Paris. Yup, the men's catwalk shows moved from Milan on to Paris with shows taking place from Thursday January 21st until Sunday January 24th.
Here are some quick overviews of the some of the hottest shows that hit the Paris runway:
Issey Miyake Thursday January 21, 2010 Issey Miyake was the first major designer to kick things off at Paris Fashion week. Bold colours and patterned prints made a dramatic yet masculine impact on the runway.
Louis Vuitton Thursday January 21, 2010 Louis Vuitton presented a safe yet fashionable presentation of menswear inspired by Vienna in the 1920's. Relaxed suiting and interesting details on jackets and pants were also seen.
Jean Paul Gaultier Thursday January 21, 2010 The inspiration for Jean-Paul Gaultier's latest collection was violence and the boxing ring. Bruised and bloodied models walked the runway wearing cool casuals and layered basics.
Yves Saint Laurent Friday January 22, 2010 Stefano Pilati, creative director for YSL, brought structured modern pieces to the runway. The presentation was really one of their best collections in recent memory.
Givenchy Friday January 22, 2010 For this collection Riccardo Tisci brought along some sophistication for the Givenchy boys. Sandal-wearing models wore lean silhouettes, lots of leather and lots of layers.
Viktor & Rolf Friday January 22, 2010 Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren always deliver awesome shows and for this collection the theme was the Rolling Stones song Paint It Black. Oh yeah the clothes were outstanding.
John Galliano Friday January 22, 2010 What is Paris fashion week without John Galliano? One of the definite highlights of the week brought a taste of Sherlock Holmes to the runway for his latest collection.
Dior Homme Saturday January 23, 2010 Kris Van Assche presented a slick Dior collection with a dark colour palette. Sleek, sexy yet masculine.
Balmain Saturday January 23, 2010 Christophe Decarnin brought a collection of sophisticated grunge to the runway. Sophisticated fitted jackets matched with ripped jeans was Balmain cool
Lanvin Sunday January 24, 2010 Lanvin’s creative director Alber Elbaz got the inspiration for Lanvin’s latest collection from the street. Relaxed casuals dominated the runway.
Paul Smith Sunday January 25, 2010 Paul Smith brought rock n’ roll inspired clothes to the runway for his latest collection. Bright colours and interesting prints were everywhere.
