A new name and title sponsor for Toronto Fashion Week

Toronto Fashion Week has a new name and a new title sponsor. Last night the Fashion Design Council of Canada announced that World MasterCard would take over the title sponsorship of Canada's semi-annual event. World MasterCard replaces LG, the brand which had been Toronto Fashion Week's title sponsor since 2009.

"It is a great honour to welcome World MasterCard as the title sponsor of Fashion Week as we continue to grow our own fashion landscape with their global endorsement." - FDCC president Robin Kay

World MasterCard will also bring a little fashion week fun to everyday Torontonians through its retail program, Stylicity. By partnering with local businesses Stylicity provides consumers with unique experiences, designer events and discounts at some of the hottest restaurants, shops, and exclusive spas in the city.

World MasterCard Fashion Week will host over 60 designer runway shows and presentations as part of Canada's fall/winter 2012 collections this March at David Pecaut Square.

What do you think of Toronto Fashion Week's new name and logo?

Update: Maybelline New York has become the official makeup sponsor for World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto.

After 5 days of runway presentations the 25th season of Toronto Fashion Week came to a close on Friday night with spring collections presented by Lauren Bagliore, David Dixon and Denis Gagnon. (Click here for my take on earlier in the day)

Lauren Bagliore found inspiration from the streets of Florence, Paris and Bangkok for her spring 2012 collection that she presented on Friday evening at LG's Toronto Fashion Week. Models walked the runway to a trip-hop soundtrack (that included some old school Portishead) showing off black and white dresses (the odd grey and beige piece made an appearance) that were draped and tied to create interesting silhouettes. Dramatic silver accessories seemed to steal the show.

Day 5 of Toronto Fashion Week kicked off with an afternoon of runway presentations at David Pecaut Square. Here's a look at what came down the runway on Friday afternoon at LG Fashion Week.

21-year-old designer Adrian Wu attempted to make a dramatic statement with his conceptual spring 2012 collection that he presented on Toronto Fashion Week's final day. Wu kicked off the afternoon with a small collection of statement (i.e. totally unwearable) pieces that seemed to confuse most in the audience. Sadly, gaping zippers and unfinished hems distracted from the strangely bizarre gowns. Overall, incredibly creative but more attention to detail was needed for a true Comme des Garcons fashion statement.

Montreal-based actress, singer and designer Caroline Neron brought her collection of luxurious jewelry to LG's Toronto Fashion Week on Thursday evening. Scantily clad goddesses strutted down the runway in the smaller studio space wearing layers of gold, metal and crystals that were inspired by nature. The final creation, a glimmering headdress that draped down the model's body was simply striking.

Cynthia Rowley dresses 3 Canadian women as part of Kellogg's Special K Start Something Fabulous program

A few months ago Kellogg's Special K launched a nationwide search to find three fabulous (and confident) everyday women to take part in their new "Start Something Fabulous" program. This week the breakfast brand held a reception (hosted by Canadian model Monika Schnarre) in the Toronto Fashion Week tents with American designer Cynthia Rowley. Cynthia designed a collection of 3 special red dresses for the fabulous contest winners.

"I loved creating these dresses; red is a powerful color that says confidence. Each dress silhouette was created to match each woman’s unique personality and lifestyle. All three dresses are also true to my signature style – feminine, elegant and pretty." - Cynthia Rowley

Veronic Bertrand from Rockland, ON; Mika Fryling from Burnaby, BC; and Melanie Boucher from Ottawa, ON, were chosen from hundreds of submissions and on Thursday night the ladies hit the annual fashion extravaganza to show off their custom designed Cynthia Rowley dresses. In addition to their custom designed frocks, the women received a make-over, a shopping spree and images of the 3 women will appear on select boxes of Kellogg’s Special K cereal and print ads.

Sarah Stevenson started off day 4 of Toronto Fashion Week with a studio presentation that showcased her artwork and a spring 2012 collection of pretty dresses inspired by the flowers found in her own Toronto backyard. Delicate looks (mostly dreamy dresses) that would be perfect for any sophisticated outing.

Day 3 of Toronto Fashion Week finished off with a fun and fashionable presentation of rugs, Kimberley Newport-Mimran’s Pink Tartan and an impressive Joe Fresh show. Here's a look at what came down the runway on Wednesday evening at LG Fashion Week. (Click here for my take on earlier in the day)

Seriously fun. That about sums up the Korhani Home Rug runway show that took place on Wednesday evening. As a major sponsor of Toronto Fashion Week, the Montreal-based company sent whimsical creations down the runway that were created from thick rugs with fun and flirty patterns. Three very different stories played out on the runway: sexy Arabian nights, an 80's tribute including some amazing Miami Vice looks and an unbelievable Alice In Wonderland themed segment. Incredibly creative and arguably the most fun of the week.

Day 2 of Toronto Fashion Week finished off with a little competition, a strong showing from one of Canada's rising stars and a whole lot of smoke. Here's a look at what came down the runway on Tuesday evening at LG Fashion Week. (Click here for my take on earlier in the day)

The Mercedes Benz Start Up Competition

Earlier this year Mercedes-Benz and IMG launched a national program to find Canada's emerging fashion designers. The prize? The winner of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz Start Up will receive a spread in Fashion magazine and a runway show next March during Toronto Fashion Week. Not too bad right? On Tuesday night the 2011 finalists took their collections to the runway in the final stage of the competition. Exciting and energetic. Impressive (and very different) pieces from Unttld, Triarchy, Cassie Dee, Travis Taddeo and Martin Lim came down the runway before Canadian supermodel Jessica Stam hit the stage to announce this year’s winner. In the end the design team behind Martin Lim won the oh so coveted prize.

Amanda Lew Kee - Spring 2012

The last time we saw Amanda Lew Kee she was wearing blue lipstick and sending Christmas tinsel ensembles down the LG runway. That was six months ago and a lot has changed since then. The reviews for her fall 2011 collection were less than stellar but on Tuesday afternoon the young designer returned to Toronto Fashion Week (sans lipstick) and showed off a softer, more mature collection. Edgy styles were replaced with preppy sportswear in jersey and silk chiffon. Some worked... some did not.
