Dolce & Gabbana slam fast fashion collaborations

Dreaming of a Dolce & Gabbana collaboration with H&M or Target collaboration? According to Domenico Dolce it's never going to happen. In a recent interview with WWD the designer insisted that the Italian design duo would not be following in the footsteps of designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Lanvin and Versace.

Stefano Gabbana: [laughs] I ask him if he goes to mass to design collections...
Domenico Dolce: It's classic elegance. Elegance is always beautiful, contemporary and timeless. It doesn't have to be about the latest trend, or from a signature brand. Its forever. Recently, it's all "trusciume" [in Sicilian, cheap, trashy] — there's no quality, these fast-fashion companies churning out looks. People thought it was cool, but it's cheap. You can't expect quality at 20 euros [$27]. It's like good codfish at 5 euros [$6.70] -- how can it be? But it's not a matter of price. Elegance is intellectual; it's about good taste, the cut, proportions, quality, how you carry yourself.

Looks like Dolce & Gabbana fans will have to keep saving up for the real thing.

Earlier this year Dolce & Gabbana announced that they were discontinuing their cheaper D&G line to concentrate on their namesake collection.

Gap And Diane Von Furstenberg To Launch Kids And Baby Collection

After a month of speculation... Diane von Furstenberg, the designer behind the bold-printed wrap dress, is teaming up with Gap to launch a childrenswear collection set to hit stores in March next year.

Diane's collection for the mega-retailer will include unisex garments for babies up to 2 years old, and clothes for girls ages 2 through 14. The fashion icon comments, "as a proud mother and grandmother I am so excited to create a capsule collection for children with the superstar retailer, Gap."

DVF follows a number of high-end designers who have recently collaborated with Gap, including Valentino and Stella McCartney. Stella's two kids collections for Gap last year were so successful that she launched her own children's line.

The Diane von Furstenberg for Gap Kids collection will be available in almost 30 countries, including Canada, in March 2012.

London Fashion Week was interupted for a memorial service for Lee Alexander McQueen on Monday morning when family, friends and fashion's elite gathered at St Paul's cathedral to celebrate the life of the designer who died in February. The British Fashion Council cleared space on the official show schedule for the 70 minute service.

Prayers, tributes and remembrances were all part of the tribute to the designer. Among those in attendance were Anna Wintour, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Sarah Jessica Parker, Stella McCartney, Philip Treacy, Daphne Guinness and members of the international fashion press.

Lee Alexander McQueen Tribute - September 2010

The order of service included an address from Anna Wintour and a performance by Bjork, who emerged from the Minor Cannon's Aisle dressed as an angel singing 'Gloomy Sunday'. Anna Wintour said that McQueen designed the "most exquisite couture dresses and at the same time had a real impact on how the world dressed". The Vogue editor-in-chief also told the congregation that McQueen transported fashion watchers "into a world of sensation where you could be shocked, repulsed or thrilled".
