Oscar de la Renta to launch clothing line for children

Following in the little footsteps of Gucci, Lanvin and Versace... Oscar de la Renta has announced that he is developing a luxury children's clothing line.

Aside from a licensing deal for childrenswear that Oscar de la Renta had more than 20 years ago, the designer has only dabbled in clothing for kids in recent years, designing one-off pieces for charities.

The famed American designer has hired Catherine Monteiro de Barros, founder of luxury children's line Papo d’Anjo, as his new vice president of design for children's line.

The Oscar de la Renta children's collection will be available for both girls and boys aged between 18 months and 14 years. Key pieces will appear in stores as early as spring/summer 2012, with a full fall/winter 2012 runway show to follow.

Recently New York's bridal fashion week took over the city and designers including Badgley Mischka, Carolina Herrera, Marchesa, Monique Lhuillier, Romona Keveza and Oscar de la Renta sent gorgeous fairy-tale creations down the runway. Vera Wang, arguably the queen of the bridal couture world, shocked a lot of fashion watchers and wedding fanatics by breaking tradition and presenting a bridal collection that was filled with non-traditional tones like nude and black.

Vera Wang's show notes for her fall 2012 bridal showcase read "Witchcraft" and the designer sent an army of models down the runway wearing dramatic nude and black wedding gowns that dazzled and shocked. Striking creations of draped tulle and deconstructed chiffon, each with intricate details in organza or lace appliqués.

"I found black to be fresh and tongue in cheek. With all the big weddings that happened this year, it was fun to step out of the box. I did take it to a witchy kind of place. For me, it helped build a sense of mystery that I was hungry for. And it added this sensuality and sexuality, and a little bit of severity, too." - Vera Wang

This isn't the first time that the designer has broke from tradition. In the past Vera Wang has showed off romantic creations in green, blue, purple and dove grey.

Here's a look at Vera Wang's dark wedding dresses from her fall 2012 bridal collection.

Oscar de la Renta Bashes Michelle Obama's Alexander McQueen State Dinner Dress

Michelle Obama made fashion headlines earlier this week when she when she wore a striking black and red Alexander McQueen dress by Sarah Burton to a state dinner for People's Republic of China President Hu Jintao. Red symbolizes good luck in Chinese culture and most fashion watchers were swooning over frock... however not everyone approved. Fashion legend Oscar de la Renta is unimpressed and feels that the First Lady should have worn a dress by an American or Chinese designer.

"My understanding is that the visit was to promote American-Chinese trade — American products in China and Chinese products in America. Why do you wear European clothes? ... I'm not talking about my clothes, my business. I'm old, and I don't need it. But there are a lot of young people, very talented people here who do." - Oscar de la Renta

Who knew that fashion could be so political?

The eighth and final day New York Fashion Week brought true glamour to the runway. Here's a look at the 2011 spring/summer collections from Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Oscar de la Renta.

Location: Skylight Studio
Date and Time: Thursday September 16, 2010 - 10:00am

Ralph Lauren - 2011 Spring Collection

Thursday morning, Ralph Lauren showed one of his best women’s collections in memory. Inspiration came from the West and included lots of lace and fringes. Nothing costumey… just Ralph Lauren's sophisticated touch that somehow makes the west feel right at home on the sidewalks of any big city. Accessories like conch belts and hobo bags also had the same yee-haw inspiration.

Calvin Klein - 2011 Spring Collection

Francisco Costa’s spring collection for Calvin Klein was clean crisp and classic. Calvin Klein’s 2011 spring/summer takes seemingly plain clothes and makes them feel completely relevant and new. Essentially the upcoming Calvin Klein collection is smouldering minimalism at its best. P.S. Lara Stone, the brand’s signature face, closed the show.

Oscar de la Renta - 2011 Spring Collection

A seductive flamenco soundtrack set the atmosphere at the 2011 spring/summer runway show for Oscar de la Renta. Sunny garden prints dominated classic Oscar looks for day. Classic dresses and jackets were both beautiful and romantic. For evening, phenomenal gowns came in plumped-up volumes. P.S. A smiling Karlie Kloss walked the runway looking fabulous.

First of all... I thought this year's Emmy celebration was one of the best award shows I have seen in a long time. Have you ever laughed that much during a Hollywood awards bash? When I wasn't laughing... of course I was busy watching all of the glitz and excitement on the red carpet.

Here’s are a few of my thoughts on the fashion spectacles (both good and bad) seen on the red carpet at the 62nd annual Emmy Awards.

Fashion lovers around the world wondered what this bride would wear on her wedding day and finally we have the answer. Yesterday, Chelsea Clinton wore a custom Vera Wang dress when she walked down the aisle in upstate New York, to marry Marc Mezvinsky. The bride looked truly beautiful in a strapless silk organza Vera Wang gown that featured intricate beading at the waist.

Yesterday I started talking about how costume designer Patricia Field turned each of the Sex And The City characters into fashion icons and since the theatrical release of Sex And The City 2 takes place later this week I'm taking a look back at each of the characters most memorable fashion moments. Yesterday it was all about Miranda so let's keep things going by taking a look back at Charlotte.

Kristin Davis’ character Charlotte York, later Charlotte McDougal and finally Charlotte Goldenblatt had style that was classic, sophisticated and somewhat reserved. Charlotte always looked her best and always looked incredibly feminine no matter what the occasion was. She regularly wore pretty floral patterns, preppy prints and plaids as well as gorgeous floor length gowns.

Here's a quick look back at 10 of Charlotte's most memorable looks on Sex And The City:

The Chicken Dance
Season 2, Episode 7

SATC Style - Charlotte - The Chicken Dance

When Charlotte was asked to be a bridesmaid in season 2 she was determined not to wear a typical dress to the wedding. Our favourite Park Avenue princess wore a plunging black halter evening gown by Anna Molinari that grabbed everyone's attention.
