Christie Brinkley, Rose McGowan & Minka Kelly stumble on the Red Dress Collection runway

The runway can be a dangerous place... at least that's what Christie Brinkley, Rose McGowan and Minka Kelly discovered on Wednesday night at the Heart Truth's annual Red Dress Collection fashion show in New York City. Each of the women stumbled at the annual New York Fashion Week kickoff event that aims to draw attention to women's heart health.

Christie Brinkley was the first to stumble on the Red Dress Collection runway. The former supermodel was walking down the runway wearing a floor-length Pamella Roland gown (to her ex-husband Billy Joel's hit "Uptown Girl") when her chiffon gown got caught on one of her four-inch heels. Christie finished her strut like a pro but told Women's Wear Daily backstage, "I almost fell flat on my face!"

"I will never walk in a fashion show again!" That's what a Roberto Cavalli-clad Rose McGowan told reporters after her dress got tangled when she was walking down the runway. After her stumble, the actress kicked her leg up and dramatically walked down the runway waving her arm as the audience applauded.

Christie and Rose weren't the only two red dress-wearing celebrities to have a stumble on the runway — Minka Kelly lost a heel while wearing a sequined Diane von Furstenberg wrap-dress. Thankfully the actress recovered nicely.

Now in it's tenth year the Heart Truth's annual Red Dress Collection annual fashion show features models, actresses and singers who walk the runway wearing custom made scarlet dresses to raise awareness of heart disease.

At Monday's British Fashion Awards in London, Victoria Beckham was presented with the Designer Brand of the Year award. On stage Victoria was overcome with emotion - and rightly so. After years of reinventing herself as a designer, the fashionable evening showed the world that despite the obstacles (and initial mockery)... Victoria Beckham has found success as a fashion designer.

The former Spice Girl may never lose her famous "Posh" moniker, but the industry honour proved that the 37-year-old has come a long way. The pop star-turned-soccer wife and mother-turned-red carpet icon-turned-fashion designer has proved to be a fashion force to be reckoned with.

"I'm very aware of people's preconceptions... But the product spoke for itself." - Victoria Beckham

These days Hollywood’s biggest stars wear Victoria’s frocks when they hit the red carpet and fashion followers are paying serious attention to her ever-expanding brand. The mother of four (Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, 9, Cruz, 6, and 4-month-old daughter Harper with soccer star husband David Beckham) has worked hard to prove that her fashionable success is neither fluke nor whim, with a string of well-received (and oh so cohesive) collections.

Victoria Beckham's fashionable career began in 2004 when she designed a limited-edition line of jeans for Rock & Republic called VB Rocks. The following year she and David formed a branding partnership with British music mogul Simon Fuller and by 2006 the trio had launched the dVb label which included Victoria's own denim, sunglasses and a his-and-her fragrance line. In 2007 Victoria partnered up with the Japanese store, Samantha Thavasa and created a small line of handbags and jewelry that sold out instantly. Then in 2008, after months of rumours, Victoria Beckham showed her first collection of dresses at New York Fashion Week. She started small and focused on cautiously growing her business. Today the Victoria Beckham label offers handbags, eyewear and a more affordable line, Victoria by Victoria Beckham line.

"In the first collection we produced 400 dresses and we had nine retail partners internationally, and now we're producing about 500 pieces with all categories in just over 300 stores worldwide... Though I'm trying to take baby steps, the business is growing very quickly. Our turnover year-over-year has increased over 120 percent. I think to anyone's standards that's very impressive." -Victoria Beckham

Here's a look back at what Victoria Beckham has sent down the New York runway.

Victoria Beckham: spring/summer 2009

Victoria Beckham- spring-summer 2009

Victoria Beckham debuted her 10 dress collection during New York Fashion Week at the famed Waldorf Hotel in the fall of 2008. Each of the dresses that were presented that day featured couture-type fabrics, restrained shades (black, navy oyster and ivory), figure-hugging silhouettes and modest below-the-knee hemlines. Only 400 dresses were made and fashion critics hailed the collection a “surprising success”.

Did Nicki Minaj Steal This Design From A Young Designer?

Earlier this week fashionable tongues were wagging when the always outlandish Nicki Minaj was snapped sitting next to Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour during New York Fashion Week. Now the pictures are stirring controversy... but it's not because of the unlikely seating situation. A young designer living in Tulsa, Oklahoma is claiming that Nicki's bizarre look was a "blatant copy" of her own creations.

Jessica Rogers hit her blog after viewing pictures of Nicki Minaj at the spring/summer 2012 Carolina Herrera runway show in NYC claiming that she had been ripped off. The young designer has been creating "puff ball" (a term she coined) garments for the past three years, under the brand name SomedayNewYorker. Several months ago Jessica was contacted by a stylist for Nicki Minaj who asked if Nicki could borrow her designs for future press events. Of course the 21-year-old designer was eager for a little celebrity endorsement so she sent the stylist photos of her work... but nothing ever happened and Jessica never heard from the stylist. About a month ago Jessica decided to follow up with Nicki's team. When she didn't hear back she decided to brush the experience off, not knowing that her designs would be copied.

When Nicki Minaj was interviewed about her multicoloured pom-pom ensemble in the New York tents she referred to the garment as being constructed of "puff balls". That's when Jessica was confident that the rap diva was wearing a knock off of her work.

"I was destroyed when I saw these photos. I was in tears by the fact that she was next to Anna Wintour. One of my personal icons and someone that I admire. I had hoped that one day she would see my garments and she would have seen it as a completely original idea. - Jessica Rogers

Nicki Minaj has yet to respond to Jessica's accusation. In the meantime... what do you think about the "puff ball" situation? Total coincidence or did someone from Nicki's camp rip off a young designer?

You can view more of Jessica's work at her online shop: www.senseofashion.com/SomedayNewYorker

Kirstie Alley Walks The Runway At New York Fashion Week

Kirstie Alley made an appearance at New York Fashion Week on Tuesday but she wasn't sitting in the front row. Kirstie received a thunderous applause when she hit the runway to close the Zang Toi spring/summer 2012 show.

The 60-year-old actress walked down the New York runway wearing a floor length cobalt blue gown and a matching dress coat with crystal embellishments by the New York based Malaysian fashion designer. Of course this wasn't the first time the two have worked together.

"I've known Zang since 1993. I did the cover of Redbook and I wanted something really beautiful ... he just has the most beautiful clothes, period." -Kirstie Alley

Cheers to Kirstie!

New York's most fashionable week took over the city from Thursday February 10th until Thursday February 17th. The runway was a mix of metallics, brights, neutrals and elaborate details. Here is a quick look at 15 collections that you should know about.

Christian Siriano

NYFW - Christian Siriano - FW 2011

On Thursday evening Christian Siriano presented a fall/winter collection that was inspired by nature and was predominately all black. Of course there were hints of charcoal, mauve and moss. Oversized jackets, masculine cuffed pants and gorgeous silk organza gowns all came down the runway - the show was a wonderful combination of red carpet ready and affordable looks. The evening was also a preview of Christian’s new accessories that he created for Payless. Towering platforms with metal embellishment made quiet the impact... especially after one of the models took a nasty spill on the runway.

NYFW - Jason Wu - FW 2011

Inspired by Versailles, Jason Wu presented a fall/winter collection that was filled with sophisticated pieces on Friday afternoon. Jason claimed the the garments paid tribute to Michelle Obama for being "a fan" and giving him worldwide exposure by wearing his designs. The runway was filled with modern (yet wearable) pieces that featured lace, crystal and feather details. A gorgeous red evening gown complete with a patterned gold belt stole the show.

One of my favourite Canadian designers, Kimberley Newport-Mimran, debuted her upcoming fall/winter collection during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The intimate presentation showed off classic pieces that were designed with a twist. Oh so preppy frocks, a fuchsia ostrich feather skirt, mohair knits and fur-trimmed tailored coats all made a very fashionable impact.

NYFW - Victoria Beckham - FW 2011

Six seasons into her fashion career, Victoria Beckham is the ultimate example of a successful crossover. Victoria continued to impress fashion watchers with the debut of her impressive 2011 fall/winter collection on Sunday morning. A continued relaxation of silhouette and a colour palette of "desert brights" dominated the presentation. New this season... the addition of outerwear.

The Row

NYFW - The Row - FW 2011

The Row, by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, is minimalist luxury at it's best. The twins presented a surprising collection of glamorous separates on Monday morning in New York. Of course the abundance of over-the-top fur won't win them any points from PETA... but the addition of handbags and shoes will definitely please fans of the label.

Carolina Herrera
Monday February 14, 2011
www.carolinaherrera.com

NYFW - Carolina Herrera - FW 2011

Carolina Herrera's fall/winter collection was a return to the designer's chic signatures with a runway filled with pieces that were simple and to the point. The inspiration? Glamorous women of the black and white cinematic era. Assertive... but elegant silhouettes dominated the runway.

Monique Lhuillier
Monday February 14, 2011

NYFW - Monique Lhuillier - FW 2011

Moody and sophisticated? Monique Lhuillier took a break from her famed flowing, feminine silhouette’s and presented a fall/winter collection that was dark, sensual and sultry. The runway was dominated by black, grey and cream colours. The occasional leopard print offered a nice break. The pieces ranged from chic blouses and pants to cocktail dresses and red carpet gowns.

Betsey Johnson
Monday February 14, 2011
www.betseyjohnson.com

NYFW - Betsey Johnson - FW 2011

Betsey Johnson always manages to get the crowd going at her runway presentations and her "He Loves Me/He Loves Me Not" show was no different. The first pieces down the runway under the "He Loves Me Not" motto included leopard print and plaid... all worn by models with dark, bluntly cut hair. The "He Loves Me" section featured models (actual Betsey Johnson employees in all shapes and sizes) wearing blond wigs and wearing brighter, lighter prints and sequined baby doll dress... all under $100.

Marc Jacobs
Monday February 14, 2011
www.marcjacobs.com

NYFW - Marc Jacobs - FW 2011

Marc Jacobs' grand Monday night runway show featured a fully mirrored runway lined with padded columns. Model strutted the super slick runway showing off pencil skirts, sheer tops and lacy cocktail dress. Most interesting/confusing was probably the terrycloth Dalmatian-spotted dress. The cost of the over to top production? According to Robert Duffy, president of Marc Jacobs... "at least $1 million" or basically $1,750 a second.

Vera Wang
Tuesday February 15, 2011
www.verawang.com

NYFW - Vera Wang - FW 2011

Vera Wang wrote in her show notes that she was inspired by stylish American women such as Lady Emerald Cunard and Wallis Simpson, who mixed with English aristocracy in the 1930s. The pieces coming down the runway included fur-trimmed satin parkas, sleeveless coats and vests and a dozen variations on the same chiffon multi-pleated and tucked dress.

Rodarte

NYFW - Rodarte - FW 2011

Designing sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy sent a fall/winter collection of straightforward styles down the runway on Tuesday afternoon. Their inspiration came from the Great Plains and the film Days of Heaven. Prairie girl looks consisted of layers of different textures and fabrics that were matched with pretty serene colours.

NYFW - Jeremy Scott - FW 2011

Jeremy Scott called his 90's inspired fall/winter collection the the Candyflip collection. The designer once again proved that he doesn't take himself too seriously... he took cheap shots at Coke, milk and Superman with super quirky, playful attire.

For their fall/winter collection Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig looked for inspiration from Charles Dickens and Great Expectations. A magical collection of fairy tale gowns... over-the-top creations that are certain to pop up on the Oscar red carpet in a few weeks.

Ralph Lauren

NYFW - Ralph Lauren - FW 2011

A glossy black runway was absolutely perfect and helped showcase the striking fall/winter Ralph Lauren collection. The designer explained that the pieces were inspired by a mix of influences. "I have always loved the glamour and sophistication of the 1930's and its Art Deco and Chinoiserie influences. I see it as relevant and modern now."

Calvin Klein
Thursday February 17, 2011
www.calvinklein.com

NYFW - Calvin Klein - FW 2011

Francisco Costa's women’s collection for Calvin Klein was the last major show of New York Fashion Week and it was everything one would expect from the label. Minimalist chic pieces that were loosely based on Mod styles (and inspired by a teddy bear) made their way down the runway in soft, muted shades of grey, camel and white. Minimalist sophistication.

Ralph Lauren - 2011 Spring Collection

Thursday morning, Ralph Lauren showed one of his best women’s collections in memory. Inspiration came from the West and included lots of lace and fringes. Nothing costumey… just Ralph Lauren's sophisticated touch that somehow makes the west feel right at home on the sidewalks of any big city. Accessories like conch belts and hobo bags also had the same yee-haw inspiration.

Calvin Klein - 2011 Spring Collection

Francisco Costa’s spring collection for Calvin Klein was clean crisp and classic. Calvin Klein’s 2011 spring/summer takes seemingly plain clothes and makes them feel completely relevant and new. Essentially the upcoming Calvin Klein collection is smouldering minimalism at its best. P.S. Lara Stone, the brand’s signature face, closed the show.

A seductive flamenco soundtrack set the atmosphere at the 2011 spring/summer runway show for Oscar de la Renta. Sunny garden prints dominated classic Oscar looks for day. Classic dresses and jackets were both beautiful and romantic. For evening, phenomenal gowns came in plumped-up volumes. P.S. A smiling Karlie Kloss walked the runway looking fabulous.

The Marchesa 2011 spring/summer collection was presented earlier today at the Chelsea Art Museum as part of New York Fashion Week. As expected Georgina Chapman delivered one statement-making confection after another. Floor-length gowns oozed with glamour. Perforation, folds, embroidery and jewels were just a few of the details seen on the dramatic gowns.

Draped chiffon, sculpted organza and silk tulle... it was all there. Here's a look at Marchesa's incredible 2011 spring/summer collection.

Day 6 of New York Fashion Week was filled with more high profile red carpet designers. Here's a look at the 2011 spring/summer collections from Badgley Mischka, Vera Wang and the Rodarte gals.

Show: Badgley Mischka
Location: Theatre
Date and Time: Tuesday September 14, 2010 - 10:00am

Badgley Mischka - 2011 Spring Collection

Inspired by the 1988 murder mystery White Mischief Mark Badgley and James Mischka delivered a gorgeous spring/summer collection that was filled with glamour. The Tuesday morning runway show included looks from the main and couture Badgley Mischka lines as well the sportier contemporary line Mark + James. The gowns, especially a pale Grecian-inspired number, were truly spectacular.

Show: Vera Wang

Date and Time: Tuesday September 14, 2010 - 11:00am

Vera Wang - 2011 Spring Collection

Vera Wang has experimented with edgy glamour before, but nothing like what came down the runway at her 2011 spring/summer show on Tuesday morning. Wang's Kill Bill inspired collection was both dark and intimidating. Origami folds and a dark colour palette proved sexy... but so did the odd pieces that popped up that featured delicate details, striking floral prints and splashes of pink and crimson.

Clashing fabrics, textures and undefinable silhouettes - it could only be Rodarte. Laura and Kate Mulleavy presented their 2011 spring/summer collection on Tuesday afternoon to a packed crowd. Nothing commercial. Creative yes... but needless to say these tattered frocks and mixed up separates are not for everyone.
