This week Karl Lagerfeld is in the Paris office of global newspaper Metro acting as a guest editor. The designer is notorious for his controversial public outbursts and today he took five minutes off from his duties to give his opinions on what's dominating the world's headlines:
Here's what Karl Lagerfeld had to say to Metro:
Karl on M.I.A. and her middle finger during Madonna's Super Bowl halftime show:
"Nowadays people give the middle finger quite quickly – it's not the best behavior. Everybody does that, what's new about that? It's just become a bad habit. People in magazines are 50% bimbo and 50% pregnant women."
Karl on Adele, Florence Welch and Lana del Rey:
"I prefer Adele and Florence Welch. But as a modern singer she is not bad.The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice. Lana del Rey is not bad at all. She looks very much like a modern-time singer. In her photos she is beautiful. Is she a construct with all her implants? She's not alone with implants."
Karl on Barack Obama's claim that he "deserves" to be re-elected:
"Yes he does, especially because of Mrs. Obama. I'm a big fan of Mrs. Obama – and her face, I think, is magical. He would not be there without her. There was an article by some stupid woman, I forgot who, and she said she [Mrs. Obama] was poorly dressed. Mrs. Obama is not a fashion statement, she has other things to do. ...My favorite line of Mrs. Obama is when a journalist asked her if she thought her skirts were not too tight and she answered, "Why you don't like my big black ass?" This is a line I admire. She got me with that. So I want Mr. Obama who I think is very okay— because there is nothing better anyway — [to be re-elected], especially because of her."
I never voted in my life. I will never vote. I know too much about politics from what's going on backstage. To vote you have to believe all that garbage that they promise you, and they can't keep those promises. If someone gave me an Obama pin, I would just put it on.
* UPDATE: Kristina Schake, Director of Communications to First Lady Michelle Obama released a statement saying, "Mrs. Obama never made that statement."
Karl on women in Russia:
"If I was a woman in Russia I would be a lesbian, as the men are very ugly. There are a few handsome ones, like Naomi Campbell's boyfriend, but there you see the most beautiful women and the most horrible men."
Karl on sustainable fashion:
"I don't know what you consider as sustainable fashion. Do it, but don't make a subject out of it. It's a little bit boring."
Oh, Karl. What would we do without you? You can check out more "Karlisms" over at Metro.

Sunday night Madonna hit the stage for the 2012 Super Bowl halftime show and brought the house down with a melody of some of her biggest hits ("Vogue", "Music" and "Like A Prayer" along with her new single, "Give Me All Your Luvin'"), crazy choreography and some serious couture.
Madonna's Egyptian goddess-inspired Super Bowl wardrobe came courtesy of stylist and costume designer B. Akerlund, who has previously worked with the pop icon on many of her music videos. Madonna rode into the Indianapolis stadium on a massive chariot wearing a custom headpiece by Philip Treacy and a Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy haute couture gold cape that was hand-embroidered with gold metal, studs and crystals. She removed the elaborate cape to reveal a black Givenchy couture minidress with a hand-studded python belt, a pair of over-the-knee stiletto Miu Miu boots, embroidered nappa leather gloves and 19.6 carats of white gold and diamond earrings by Bulgari. Madonna soon ditched the elaborate headpiece for gold cheerleader pom-poms... and closed the black and gold fashion-filled extravaganza wearing a black sequined Givenchy couture robe.
The performance consisted of 500 outfits including head to toe looks for surprise guests LMFAO, Nicki Minaj and MIA (wearing Fausto Puglisi and Erickson Beamon headpieces) and Cee-Lo Green (wearing a sequined robe and studded Christian Louboutin loafers) as well as costumes for a troop of dancers (some wearing Jeremy Scott for Adidas) 100 drum line performers, 150 gladiators (wearing Calvin Klein underwear) and 200 choir singers.

The first advert for Madonna's highly anticipated fragrance has been revealed. The black and white Truth or Dare frangrance ad features two different images of the 53-year-old star topless.
The images used in the Truth or Dare fragrance ad are from a Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott photo shoot that Madonna did for Interview magazine earlier this year.
Madonna's new Truth or Dare lifestyle brand, which will also include accessories, footwear, handbags, and intimates launches in 2012.

After the successful launch of her Material Girl juniors line with daughter Lola, Madonna has announced that she will be launching a new "lifestyle brand" that is scheduled to hit stores next year.
Truth or Dare by Madonna is a lifestyle brand that will feature fragrances, accessories, footwear, handbags and intimates exclusively at Macy's in 2012. Aimed at women ages 27 to 50, the brand is expected to roll out into other major department stores in 2013.
"Over the past several years, I have been approached countless times to create my own brand. The timing is right and I have found great partners in Iconix who can help translate my vision to reality." - Madonna
Madonna kicks things off in April 2012 when her first-ever signature fragrance hits Macy's. An image of the upcoming fragrance bottle (above right) was released today - a minimalist, hexagonal bottle with gold cap and simple, geometric logo.
A 24-year-old bustier that Madonna wore on stage during her 1987 Who's That Girl tour has sold at auction for $72,000. The bustier was just one of several pieces of celebrity memorabilia that went up for auction this past weekend... it originally had an estimated value of $6,000 - $8,000.
The black and gold bustier was custom made by Los Angeles based Trashy Lingerie for Madonna to wear on the stage with a pair of fishnet stockings. The 32C bustier with it's tassels and gold sequins was just one of the costumes that stylist and costume designer Marlene Stewart selected for the pop star to wear on her first world tour.

Brand: Versace Atelier
Year: 1995
Model: Madonna
Photographer: Mario Testino
In 1995 Gianni Versace chose Madonna to pose for the Versace Atelier ad campaign and catalogue. Steven Meisel shot the first set of photographs but Mario Testino was also asked to shoot the singer wearing the winter Versace collection.
Madonna was a breakthrough for Versace and garnered endless press coverage for the label. The photographs were also a breakthrough for Mario Testino. The ad campaign and Madonna's very public endorsement of Testino's work changed everything. According to the photographer: "It made quite an impact... I was a no one. Who is this Testino? It did change the way people saw me. I became a brand."

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is hosting an incredible exhibit of the work of celebrated French couturier Jean Paul Gaultier.
The "Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk" is the first exhibition devoted to the work of Jean Paul Gaultier and it's already a huge hit. The musem opened the doors to the exhibit less than a week ago and it will run until October 2nd before embarking on an international tour that will include San Francisco, Madrid and the Netherlands.
Inside the museum there are more than 140 ensembles (created between the early 1970s and 2010), from the designer's haute couture collections and his pret-a-porter line. The pieces have, for the most part, never been exhibited before. Along with the impressive runway creations the Montreal JPG exhibit includes sketches, stage costumes, concert clips from artists like Madonna and Kylie Minogue and excerpts from films and runway shows.
Entering the museum, visitors are welcomed by Gaultier himself - well a talking mannequin wearing nautical stripes that looks and sounds like Gaultier. It's not the only animated mannequin either... the blue-lit grand entry features numerous animated mannequins who wink, blink and speak. One is dressed in the crocheted dress worn by Kylie Minogue in her "Like a Drug" video projected during a past concert tour while another mannequin is wearing the mermaid-inspired dress that Marion Cotillard wore to the Oscars in 2008.
"Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk" is organized in six themes: the Odyssey of JPG, the Boudoir, Skin Deep, Punk Cancan, Urban Jungle and Metropolis. Haute couture works of art throughout the exhibit are accompanied with detailed explanations... like what collection the piece is from, who wore it and how many hours it took to create. One of the many highlights? The iconic corsets from Madonna's Blond Ambition tour that can be found in the Boudoir.
Here's a closer look inside the "Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk" exhibition.
Michael Jackson's iconic red jacket from the "Thriller" video is hitting the auction block in Beverly Hills in a few weeks - and it's expected to fetch $400,000.
The autographed jacket (Michael personally autographed it for his former costume designers) is just one of several MJ items up for auction this month. Also up for grabs... the wig Michael wore at his "This Is It" news conference in London (um... yuk) and a sparkling glove that he wore at the American Music Awards.
Over 600 collectible items will be available at Julien's "Music Icons" auction that will be held in California on June 25th and 26th. Fashionable memorabilia from the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Madonna and Lady Gaga will also be on hand.

Last month it was announced that the Kelly Osbourne was taking over for Gossip Girl's Taylor Momsen as the face of Madonna and daughter Lourdes Leon's uber cool Material Girl collection.
The ads are out and the '80s are totally alive!
"I take so much of my style from Madonna in the '80s and I really admire how Lola dresses and that she stays true to herself. It’s such an honor to be a part of this campaign and it was an amazing experience to work with Madonna and Lola. Material Girl is incredible because it’s high fashion but it is accessible to everyone at Macy’s." - Kelly Osbourne
Kelly's Material Girl ads will debut in the magazines next month while posters went up in select Bay stores across Canada (and Macy's stores across the US) earlier today.

Goodbye Taylor Momsen. It has just been announced that Kelly Osbourne will be replacing the Gossip Girl/budding grunge singer as the face of Madonna's Material Girl clothing line.
Kelly's new gig is thanks to the queen of pop's 14-year-old daughter Lourdes who apparently just loves Kelly.
Congrats Kelly!
