10. Versace for H&M madness
[Above: Who expected the global hysteria surrounding the debut collection of Versace for H&M? Ummm... everyone.]
Forget the Missoni for Target collaboration that famously crashed target.com... the craziest fashion collaboration of 2011 had to be the Versace for H&M extravaganza that hit stores on Saturday November 18th. After months of serious hype, Donatella's vintage Versace-inspired collection hit select H&M stores across the globe. Celebs wearing the most sought after pieces, overnight lineups, in-store madness and eBay markups followed. Viva Versace!

For the second year in a row, Gucci is the most searched fashion brand online. That's according to Microsoft's Bing search engine, whose annual search-trends list was released this week.
French fashion house Chanel fell to the fifth position on the fashionable list after securing the number two spot last year - Ralph Lauren now occupies the second most searched spot on Bing.com.
Other interesting appearances on the annual search trends list include the late Coco Chanel and John Galliano. The release of several Coco Chanel biographies this year meant that there was a renewed interest in the designer's fascinating life while John Galliano's name was linked to endless media reports. Galliano was found guilty of racist and anti-Semitic remarks following his arrest at a Paris bar in February.

The always outspoken Jean Paul Gaultier is at it again. Recently JPG sat down with The Independent and chatted about everything including his thoughts on John Galliano and US Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
When asked about the John Galliano scandal, the 59-year-old French fashion designer insisted that it was pressure which caused Galliano to make anti-Semitic and racist comments in France earlier this year. "John is very talented. He has done some beautiful things for Dior. I think it is completely sad that he doesn't have his own label anymore. I think it's bad. There are some people who say and do terrible things and they are not even punished for it". John Galliano was found guilty and lost his jobs at Christian Dior and his eponymous label after the scandal broke but JPG hopes that one day he will return to the world of fashion.
As for Anna Wintour? Jean Paul Gaultier joked that the formidable fashion editor is "more monstrous" than Meryl Streep's character in The Devil Wears Prada saying "Anna Wintour is a lot more monstrous than she is described!" When asked if Vogue's Queen is a positive figure... JPG was a little more evasive. "She is a figure" is all he would say.

A Paris court has found John Galliano guilty of making anti-Semitic remarks. The flamboyant fashion designer, known for his over-the-top runway collections, was found guilty on Thursday of "public insults based on origin, religious affiliation, race or ethnicity".
John Gallinao was given suspended fines totalling 6,000 Euros (approx $8,272 CAD based on today's conversion rates) which means that although it goes on his criminal record, he is not required to pay it. The 50-year-old British designer was, however, ordered to pay 16,500 Euros ($22,748 CAD) in court fees for the complainants - three individuals and five anti-racism associations - plus a symbolic 1 Euro ($1.38 CAD) in damages to each one. Under French law, Galliano could have faced up to six months in prison but Galliano will not be required to serve any time.
In February John Galliano made headlines around the world after a couple claimed that the designer made anti-Semitic comments to them in a cafe in Paris. A drunk Gallino was questioned by police and quickly released. Days later another woman came forward with similar claims about an incident that took place months earlier in the same cafe... then a video hit the web showing an inebriated Galliano insulting a fellow cafe client, slurring the words "I love Hitler". Christian Dior quickly denounced his comments and Galliano was immediately fired from his post as creative director of the label after 14 years. After a stint in rehab, Galliano headed back to Paris for his trial where he blamed tremendous industry pressure and a trio of addictions - alcohol, barbiturates and sleeping pills - for his anti-semitic outbursts.
Galliano was not present for the verdict.

It's been more than a month since Kate Moss got married to her longtime love, drummer Jamie Hince and now Vogue magazine is giving readers a look at the supermodel's nuptials.
The September issue of the fashion bible features a shot of Kate wearing an Alexander McQueen dress from the fall runway collection but inside the issue it's all about Kate... and her custom Galliano dress. There are lots of pretty pictures (courtesy of photographer Mario Testino) to accompany Hamish Bowles' detailed account of what happened at the fashionable wedding... that was inspired but a questionable reality show. According to Bowles, the 37-year-old finally decided to get married after watching My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. Hamish writes:
It was curling up together in front of the compelling British television documentary series Big Fat Gypsy Weddings that appears to have sealed the deal. "I am so romantic about Gypsies," Kate explains. "They're not allowed to do anything until they get married. So they all get married really young, at sixteen. You can't believe the dresses. They’re like blinging butterflies times ten; they can’t move down the aisle! It's so genius. I was just watching Jamie, so cute, and I was like, these girls, they just spend their whole life waiting for that day—let's do it!"
But most importantly, the European Editor at Large for Vogue spoke with John Gallian who designed Kate's dress — his first interview since getting fired from Christian Dior.
They discussed everything on the phone, and then, when John was out of rehab for the first of four marathon fittings, he brought her "bags full of bits, and pulled tulle and sequins and veils and flowers out. And then we just kind of pinned things together, like the old days, you know?"
"She was very professional and very demanding," says Galliano, who was inspired by Jazz Age photographs of Zelda Fitzgerald. He had sent a friend to a beloved vintage fair ("because I couldn't go"), who returned with "a beautiful rosary, which I thought must have been from a fallen angel." For John it evoked his late partner-in-design Stephen Robinson. "So Stephen is watching," he says, "nestled in the back of the bow."
... "She dared me to be John Galliano again," the designer tells me. "I couldn’t pick up a pencil. It’s been my creative rehab."
Here's a look inside the Kate Moss wedding extravaganza.
Daphne Guinness is a modern style icon. She regularly walks the red carpet wearing outlandish couture, she owns Isabella Blow's entire clothing archive, she has been a muse to countless designers and Tom Ford recently called her "one of the — if not the — most stylish women living. Now Daphne Guinness is the subject of an extensive upcoming exhibition at The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.
The exhibition will feature 100 garments and accessories from Guinness' personal collection, including designs from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Azzedine Alaïa, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, John Galliano for Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Rick Owens, Gareth Pugh and Valentino. The elaborate pieces will be presented in a space that has been designed to look like the New York apartment of the famously stylish beer heiress. A statement from the museum explains the concept behind the show:
"While there have been many exhibitions devoted to great fashion designers, only a few have focused on individual women of style. Yet certain singular women play a crucial role in fashion. Known as fashion or style icons, they are a special type of fashion insider, one who not only inspires designers and brings their clothes to life, but actually creates a look that affects the way other people dress and/or think about dressing."
The Daphne Guinness Exhibition at The Museum at FIT opens on September 16, 2011 and runs until January 7, 2012.

Kate Moss married rocker Jamie Hince in the English village of Southrop earlier today. The fashion world has been speculating about Kate's dress for weeks... after the church ceremony the bride happily posed outside wearing a custom John Galliano wedding gown.
Kate's sleeveless vintage-style gown was embellished with delicate rhinestones and featured beautiful gold stud details. The supermodel completed her wedding day look with a simple bracelet, a vintage-style veil that covered a satin and lace-trimmed headband studded with flowers and a pair of Manolo Blahnik heels which had been reported to include "something blue". The groom wore a custom Stefano Pilati for Yves Saint Laurent pale blue suit.
Wearing a design by the disgraced couturier was a bold move... but it was surely an acknowledgement of their friendship and that John was there for Kate during her cocaine scandal a few years ago.

Milan Fashion Week finished last Tuesday and the next day the boys started walking down the runways in Paris showing off upcoming fall fashions.
Here's a look at some of the highlights from Paris Fashion week.
Wednesday June 22, 2011 and Thursday June 23, 2011
(L-R: Mugler, Louis Vuitton, Balmain and Jean Paul Gaultier)
Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti presented his sophomore men's collection on Thursday afternoon in Paris... campy costumes (with little sidewalk appeal) dominated the runway. Classics-with-a-twist dominated the runway at the 2012 spring/summer Louis Vuitton runway presentation. Jean Paul Gaultier's quirky 2012 spring collection for men featured an abundance of Hawaiian prints... some cool... some questionable.
Friday June 24, 2011
(L-R: Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent and John Galliano)
Riccardo Tisci offered bold patterns on many of the pieces within the 2012 spring/summer Givenchy collection. Stefano Pilati’s Yves Saint Laurent collection was filled with strong-shouldered tailoring in navy, white and khaki. Disgraced John Galliano's successor, Bill Gaytten, offered a stomp through the Pop Art scene of London in the 60s for the spring/summer John Galliano collection.
Saturday June 25, 2011 and Sunday June 26, 2011
(L-R: Dior Homme, Hermès, Lanvin and Paul Smith)
Kris Van Assche celebrated "the art of tailoring" with a Dior Homme collection that was heavy on cream suits that looked like toiles. Hermès offered relaxed dressing with a sophisticated touch. Alber Elbaz presented a Lanvin spring/summer collection for men that mixed military and bohemian styles. Paul Smith offered a sporty touch with their 2012 spring/summer collection.
