The cast of Glee (minus Amber Riley and Naya Rivera) are lending their voices to help promote an annual September event celebrating style and shopping. Lea Michele, Dianna Agron, Jenna Ushkowitz, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Harry Shum Jr., Darren Criss and the rest of the cast covered David Bowie's 1980 track "Fashion" for a new music video to promote Fashion's Night Out.
In the video Lea Michele rocks a silver Balmain dress from the fall/winter 2011 collection, Dianna Agron wears an ensemble from the Marc Jacobs fall/winter 2011 collection and the rest of the cast don designer duds from Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Alexander McQueen and Dries Van Noten.
Even Jane Lynch makes a fashionable appearance, carrying Sue Sylvester's trademark megaphone declaring "I just love fashion" and "Now get out and shop!" at the end of the video.
The third Fashion's Night Out is to be held on September 8th in cities around the world and will feature special events and sales sponsored by stores and designers.
Ever heard of Kreayshawn? Well she's an Oakland-based rapper who is busy putting the finishing touches on her soon-to-be-titled new album. Oh yeah and she's just dropped a new video for her (somewhat infectious) single "Gucci Gucci".
In the video Kreayshaw and some friends hit Beverly Hill's Rodeo Drive singing: "Gucci, Gucci, Louis, Louis, Fendi, Fendi, Prada... Basic bitches wear that sh*t so I don't even bother."
Check it out:
Kreayshawn's forthcoming album is set to drop this summer... but in the meantime what did you think of her fashionable track?
If you pay attention to any celeb blog you will know that Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen has gone grunge and is fronting the rock band, The Pretty Reckless. If you're like me... you probably haven't heard a note... until now.
Earlier this year John Galliano selected Taylor Momsen to be apart of his advertising campaign for his fragrance Parlez-Moi D'Amour. Check out the Galliano scent flick, directed by Ellen von Unwerth, for a glimpse of little "Jenny Humphrey" singing and frolicking around in lingerie.
What do you think of Taylor's e fashionable fragrance commercial?
A few weeks ago male supermodel Baptiste Giabiconi released
the video for his first single "Showtime". Was it any good? Well that's for you to decide... but it reminded me that pretty boy Baptiste is not the first supermodel to pursue a music career.
Here's a brief look back at seven of my favourite supermodels and the music videos from their... ummm... (sometimes) brief music careers.
The white, two-piece suit that John Lennon wore on the cover of the Beatles' "Abbey Road" album will be up for auction less than a month after music fans marked the 30th anniversary of the singer-songwriter's death on December 8th.
The two piece white suit was designed by Ted Lapidus and is a one-of-a-kind piece that was specifically designed for Lennon to his specifications. The last time suit went to auction, in 2005, it was sold for $120,000 US.
The infamous white suit, the blazer that Lennon wore in the "Imagine" music video and John and Yoko's 1972 Chrysler station wagon are among the memorabilia being auctioned by Braswell Galleries of Norwalk, Connecticut, on New Year's Day.
Back in October I wondered if the world was ready for another singing model when we got a little preview of Baptiste Giabiconi upcoming single "Showtime". Today the saga of Baptiste's budding music career continues... Karl Lagerfeld's muse has just released his first music video...
Here is Baptiste Giabiconi's new music video "Showtime".
Most people will recognize Alexz Johnson from her role as Jude Harrison in the award winning drama series Instant Star. The show made her a mini-star in Canada and throughout the USA and since it ended many have been wondering what’s next for the British Columbia born blonde. The answer to that question is... next week Alexz will release her debut album, entitled Voodoo, with Orange Lounge Recordings new imprint, inDiscover.
The concept for the album is reminiscent of something out of old Hollywood so I stopped by a recent photo shoot Alexz was doing here in Toronto and spent some time chatting with her about her evolving style, the fashion in her upcoming music video for “Trip Around the World”, her love of vintage and much more.
Since there were cameras rolling... here’s a look at a bit of my interview with Alexz Johnson for Sympatico:
Fashionist features/ Left & Centre / 640x406 / 16:9
Super sweet girl and definitely stylin'! Be sure and check out her debut album which is in stores the end of this month!

Love her or hate her... you have to admit Lady Gaga’s red carpet ensembles are an event themselves and now her videos are finding themselves worthy of some serious fashion commentary. Remember the over-the-top Alexander McQueen threads in the Bad Romance video last year?
Late Thursday night Lady Gaga released the her latest music video for the song “Telephone” which features Beyonce and... the fashion is... well kinda epic. It’s definitely one of the most fashion forward displays we have seen since... well since her “Bad Romance” video. If you haven't had the chance to check it out yet here it is:
The video is pretty crazy. Actually the words I used when I first saw it on Friday morning were "that video is wack". Wack or not the fashion is truly over-the-top and that's what I talk about in this blog. Here’s a look at all the killer fashion that can be found in the 9 minute video which was directed by Jonas Akerlund:
The video starts off with Lady Gaga being escorted to her jail cell wearing a cleavage baring custom made black and white outfit by the ever imaginative French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Remember that crazy Kermit the Frog coat we saw Gaga wear last year... same designer. The sunglasses are courtesy of Mercura.
The crime scene tape design that Gaga writes around her cell wearing was created by LA based designer Brian Lichtenberg.
The custom made jumpsuit and chain outfit that Gaga wears as she is escorted out to the prison yard was created by Viktor & Rolf... while the very cool lit cigarette sunglasses and crazy platform heels were custom designed by the creative team behind Lady Gaga known as “the Haus of Gaga”. Those smoking cigarette sunglasses are just insane don’t you think?
Back inside the jail... Gaga’s studded jacket is by Search and Destroy while here sunglasses are Chanel. Notice the Diet Coke can hair rollers? That little detail is one of my fave things in the video. When it is time for the first dance sequence Gaga and her dancers strip down to wear studded/crystallized barely there bikinis designed by the team at the “Haus of Gaga”.
When Lady Gaga is released from the big house she does it up in a vintage outfit and over-sized hat by Thierry Mugler. Enter Beyonce wearing a vintage Thierry Mugler hat and outfit.
Next Beyonce struts her stuff through the dinner wearing a skin tight yellow "Wonder Cup Pencil Dress" dress and hat by Atsuko Kudo who are known for their sexy couture latex designs. The Mickey Mouse inspired flip sunglasses which we have seen Gaga wear a few times before are courtesy of Jeremy Scott.
During the “Let's Make A Sandwich” sequence Gaga wears clear silicone rubber Rachel Barrett dress... Gaga performed in a similar Rachel Barrett dress on her Monster Ball tour. She wears a Fred Butler constructed telephone hat and a pair of Haus of Gaga papier-mâché boots. When she waitresses her way into the diner the blue telephone hat is replaced with a telephone hair piece created by celeb hairstylist Danilo.
For the big dance sequence with our girls we get Gaga in an American flag bikini outfit by Haus of Gaga and boots by Christian Louboutin. Beyonce dances along in a similar dress by Oscar Olima. (BTW... Gaga has worn L.A.'s Olima designs numerous times in the past year...) The background dancers wear custom made denim outfits by Franc Fernandez and Oscar Olima and leather outfits by Noki, Bess and Haus of Gaga.
Beyonce’s solo scene in a baby blue hotel room has her wearing a bling jacket and shoes by Jean Charles de Castebaljac. The denim shorts she’s wearing are by Franc Fernandez and Oscar Olima.
Next up we get Lady Gaga dancing solo in a custom made ribbed leopard 1piece by Haus of Gaga.
The video ends off with both Lady Gaga and Beyonce dancing in front of Quentin Tarantino’s infamous “pussy wagon” from the Kill Bill series. Both wear cowboy hat with sheer draping by Emilie Pirlot.
And that’s that! Exhausting right! What do you think of the video... do you have a fave part... and more importantly what do you think of all of the studs, the revealing outfits and those crazy hats and head-pieces? Let me know.
She’s not everyone’s fave but I actually am a fan of Lily Allen… in fact I am listening to her right now as I type. Forget the drunken antics that celeb blogs eat right up... although it can be hard to. Despite her numerous appearances on many worst dressed lists (including a few of my own) our girl Lily has always stated that she would like to be in the fashion biz. Of course what celeb these days hasn’t said that.
In May 2007, Lily launched a line of dresses, shoes, and accessories entitled Lily Loves but it’s her relationship with Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel that has her walking the red carpet in couture and sitting in the front row of every Chanel show. Hell, Karl even personally hired and photographed Lil for the Coco Cocoon advertising campaign to promote the plush double C’ed bags.
BTW... didn't you just love this campaign!
Anyways, Lily has now announced that she will be taking a hiatus from music... but just for a year or two... to set up her own record label and a fashion boutique where customers can rent designer threads for a fraction of the cost. Lily states: "It's about making fashion democratic... That's the idea behind it. It's about getting really nice clothes but letting people rent them for affordable prices so they can go out and feel like a million dollars and it won't cost them a million dollars."
The question whether Lady Gaga is relevant in the fashion world is an ongoing battle. Hell, even I battle with it every time I type her name. There is no denying the woman is an utter fashion disaster when she hits any red carpet... but she is also a piece of crazy, bizarre, over-the-top couture fashion work of art.
The latest chapter in the on-going saga of Lady Gaga is of course the release of her latest music video Bad Romance (it's the first video from her forthcoming album, The Fame Monster) which has literally created a sensation on YouTube and across the internet. There’s been buzz for weeks about the video. “There is going to be crazy fashions... like nothing you have seen before”. That buzz even crashed the singer's website when the video was originally suppose to premiere on Monday. Basically the influx of traffic drove the site to a halt. Luckily for Gaga fans and fashion fanatics the video hit the internet Tuesday and peeps have been buzzing ever since. If you haven’t seen the Francis Lawrence-directed video... let me just say it’s wack.
If you have seen it (or you just watched it above) of course you will have noticed that the Lady Gaga has made a serious attempt to step up her fashion game... whether that is for the best or for the worst... that is up to you. I’m personally lovin’ it! It reminds me of when music videos were at their height! Sure the plot may be lacking... our star rolls around in her bathtub, gets herself kidnapped by evil supermodels who make her drink vodka, she dances around before being passed off to the mafia, dances some more and then lights a fire... I assume using the vodka. Crazy. Of course it is but she sure does wear an awful lot of fierce couture. It would be almost worth the hassle don't you think?
One thing I love about fashion is when things get crazy... and lets face it there is no one crazier on the runway than Alexander McQueen. The cool part of this video is many of those threads Gaga wears in Bad Romance are courtesy of McQueen's Spring/Summer 2010 Plato's Atlantis collection that premiered in Paris in October. 2 months later the elaborate show is still on my mind... with good reason. It was utterly amazing. (Psst... If you want to see what all the buzz is about with this show you can actually check out the runway show on McQueen's site...)
In the first seconds of the video we get to check Gaga out in a long sleeved gold metallic McQueen mini-dress and a freaky pair of futuristic razor blade shades
Next up Gaga writhes around in the tub wearing a pair of McQueen's "Dragon" heel (She later wears a pair in black)
The structured gold McQueen dress and leggings are insane... but check out the crazy 12 inch "Armadillo" heels Gaga wears
Even if you can't stand the woman you have to admit she was simply made to ambassador McQueen's clothes.
Is it all brilliant couture or is it all just a big fashion mess? Most importantly what do you think of those insane lobster-claw shaped “Armadillo” shoes? Let me know what you think.
