Chanel's legendary logo features an overlapping double C and it was first featured on a bottle of Chanel No.5 perfume in 1925. Soon after the famous logo appeared on everything created by the brand.
Throughout fashion history there have been several versions of the origin of the logo... but according to Culture Chanel, a website which was launched in conjunction with a Beijing exhibition on the brand, the interlocking C's were inspired by a stained glass window in a chapel within the Aubazine convent - the orphanage where Coco Chanel lived for several years.
In 1969 on of the most famous American models of the time appeared in an ad for the world's most famous fragrance. Cheryl Tiegs was photographed by Jérôme Ducrot on a speeding boat next to a handsome gentleman. Below the black and white snap the tagline: "When your heart takes a spin...that's the spell of Chanel."

"... The truth is not a single screen performance is responsible for branding Elizabeth Hurley into our collective memory. And yet, she is emblazoned there, thanks to her having stepped out one night in the sartorial equivalent of the shot heard 'round the world. All it took was one dress ―"That Dress"― as it was tagged by the media the morning after Hurley's appearance at the world premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral in London. Upending her usual tabloid-captioned capacity as Hugh Grant's girlfriend, Hurley stepped out of a limo and into the paparazzi's viewfinders. ..."
Remember the Row's $39,000 crocodile backpack that instantly sold out? Remember the $19,000 shoelaces made of 24-carat gold? Well now you can purchase Chanel's $950 running shoes and hit the gym in style.
The pricey designer spring/summer 2012 kicks (also known as "le sneaker") are emblazoned with the label's iconic logo and are designed for the least humble athletes at the gym.
An identical photo of Carey Mulligan has been used on three major fashion magazine covers three different times in just 14 months.
The Peter Lindbergh shot of the actress wearing a colourful Chanel feathered dress, from the spring 2011 collection, was first seen gracing the October 2010 cover of U.S. Vogue. The same shot was then used by German Glamour in December 2010, and most recently on the November 2011 issue of Elle France.
Karl Lagerfeld presented his 78-look pre-fall 2012 collection for Chanel this week in Paris' Grand Palais. The Bombay-inspired runway was packed with top models like Arizona Muse, Baptiste Giabiconi, Jacquelyn Jablonski and Crystal Renn but all eyes were on a famous model mother/daughter duo.
47-year-old Yasmin Le Bon (80s supermodel and wife of Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon) walked the Indian-flavored fashion spectacle alongside her 22-year-old daughter Amber.
Of course this wasn't the first time that the genetically blessed mother/daughter duo walked the Paris runway for Chanel. Amber kicked off her modelling career at an early age when Yasmin walked the then-20-month-old toddler (wearing a pink Chanel romper that Karl designed especially for her) down the runway with Gail Elliott at a Chanel show in 1991.

For the second year in a row, Gucci is the most searched fashion brand online. That's according to Microsoft's Bing search engine, whose annual search-trends list was released this week.
French fashion house Chanel fell to the fifth position on the fashionable list after securing the number two spot last year - Ralph Lauren now occupies the second most searched spot on Bing.com.
Other interesting appearances on the annual search trends list include the late Coco Chanel and John Galliano. The release of several Coco Chanel biographies this year meant that there was a renewed interest in the designer's fascinating life while John Galliano's name was linked to endless media reports. Galliano was found guilty of racist and anti-Semitic remarks following his arrest at a Paris bar in February.
