Earlier this week Jean Paul Gaultier presented his spring 2012 couture collection in Paris. The runway show was an ode to Amy Winehouse and the fitted pencil skirts and corset dresses were an obvious nod to Amy's love for Fifties fashion. Today the late singer's father, Mitch Winehouse, is speaking out and is telling the press that the runway show was terribly upsetting for him and his family.
Jean Paul Gaultier's couture collection hit the Paris runway on Wednesday, just two days after the half-year anniversary of Amy's death. While Gaultier admitted that he had never actually met the singer, he explained that their "styles were similar" and the runway extravaganza was intended to be a "joyous" tribute to her iconic sense of style.
Mitch fired back and told British newspaper The Sun:
"The family were upset to see those pictures, they were a total shock. We're still grieving for her loss, and we've had a difficult week with the six month anniversary of Amy's death. To see her image lifted wholesale to sell clothes was a wrench we were not expecting or consulted on. We're proud of her influence on fashion but find black veils on models, smoking cigarettes with a barbershop quartet singing her music in bad taste. It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best and glamorises some of the more upsetting times in her life. That's upsetting for her family."
Mitch isn't the only person speaking out against Jean Paul Gaultier's Amy Winehouse tribute. Kelly Osbourne hit Twitter insisting that her late friend would have disapproved and called the French designer's tribute "lucratively selfish and distasteful".

The dress worn by the late Amy Winehouse on the front of her chart-topping 2006 "Back To Black" album has sold at auction.
The printed chiffon dress, by Thailand-based designer Disaya Sorakraikitikul, was sold by London's Kerry Taylor Auctions on Tuesday afternoon for £43,200, or $68,812 CA. The dress was acquired by a museum, the Fundacion Museo De La Moda in Chile.
Proceeds from the sale of the dress will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity set up by the singer's parents following her death to help young people struggling with poverty or addiction.
Amy Winehouse was found dead at her London home this July after a lengthy - and very public - battle with drugs and alcohol.
London-based stylist Archie Reed is causing a bit of a stir this week with the revelation that Amy Winehouse could not stand designer Alexander McQueen.
The feud began in 2006, when Archie Reed and (Lee) Alexander McQueen (his then boyfriend), met Amy Winehouse at a party in Chelsea. Apparently Lee offended the Back To Black singer at the party and she never forgave him. The particulars of the offence are anyone’s guess, but when Amy received a £15,000 Alexander McQueen frock as an apology from the designer she put it on the barbecue.
Another time, to confirm her McQueen-fuelled contempt, she spit on one of his dresses while shopping in Selfridges. When told by staff that she’d have to pay for soiling it, she retorted, "Fine – but tell Alexander McQueen I ruined his dress."
I wonder if they are fighting in the afterlife?

After several weeks of speculation, Fred Perry has announced that they will release the final pair of collections -- for fall/winter 2011 and spring/summer 2012 -- designed by the late Amy Winehouse. The label previously stated that they were holding off on all decisions regarding the collections until they spoke with Amy's family and management.
"Amy was passionate and dedicated to the collaboration, and her signature style is clearly stamped across each piece. Amy's royalties and fees from both collections will be donated to the soon-to-be-established Amy Winehouse Foundation. Fred Perry will also make a seasonal donation to the Foundation."
Amy Winehouse, who passed away on July 23rd, had been working with British sportswear label Fred Perry on an eponymous range since 2010.
