Trends, trends, trends! Here's a look at 5 different trends that dominated the red carpet at the 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Rainbow-inspired colours were seen on beautiful gowns worn by Sofia Vergara (Marchesa), Emily Blunt (Oscar de la Renta), Michelle Williams (Valentino), Regina King (Alberta Ferretti), Dianna Agron (Carolina Herrera) and Jessica Chastain (Calvin Klein).
Muted colours and tones:
Muted colours and tones were seen on gorgeous gowns worn by Lea Michele (Versace), Kristen Wiig (Balenciaga), Naya Rivera (Naeem Khan), Julianna Margulies (Calvin Klein Collection) and Octavia Spencer (Tadashi Shoji).
Anything but basic black:
These black gowns were anything but boring... Angelina Jolie (Jenny Packham), Emma Stone (Alexander McQueen), Tina Fey (vintage Versace), Jane Krakowski (Antonio Berardi) and Ashlee Simpson (Jenny Packham).
Sexy slits and serious cutouts:
Sexy slits and serious cutouts dominated the 2012 SAG red carpet. Examples of the trend were seen on Lea Michele (Versace), Kyra Sedgwick (Pucci), Amber Heard (Zac Posen), Emily Blunt (Oscar de la Renta), Ahna O'Reilly (Nha Khanh) and Jenna Ushkowitz (Rebecca Minkoff).
Headband braids:
The biggest beauty trend on the 2012 SAG red carpet? Headband braids! In fact six major stars sported the milkmaid-inspried look. Kaley Cuoco, Dianna Agron, Busy Phillips, Renee Bargh, Mayim Bialik and Ariel Winter.

Did anyone else enjoy the way Angelina Jolie's dress was accessorized with those firehose-sized VEINS hanging off her jailhouse-tattooed stick-insect arms? Oh, and her dress looked like it was made out of a garbage bag. We all know what belongs in garbage bags, so it was perfectly appropriate!

How can bright coloured, muted coloured AND black dresses all be trends? Wouldn't they all kinda cancel each other out as a "trend"?

There were so many gorgeous dresses last night - unbelievable...but I've go to agree with @Lynore - Ashlee Simpson was an absolute knockout with the Packham gown.

I loved the Jenny Packham gown Ashlee Simpson wore. Her work always has a vintage look to it.
